Biological sciences

Astrobiology: from stars and planets to extreme life

Objective: to promote multidisciplinary research (astrophysics, biology, chemistry, geology, geophysics, palaeontology) in the study of the origin, evolution and distribution of life, adaptation to extreme conditions and conditions of habitability in the universe. (website: astrobio.oma.be)
President: Javaux-Plumier Emmanuelle, Lecturer at the Université de Liège (ULiège); Head of section at the ORB, Part-time lecturer at the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL)

Molecular bacteriology

Objective: the aim of the Molecular Bacteriology contact group is to organise a network of researchers studying various types of bacteria (Gram positive and negative, pathogenic or not) using biochemical, genetic and genomic approaches.
President: De Bolle Xavier, Part-Time professor at the Université de Namur (UNamur)

Structural biology

Objective: use of experimental and bioinformatic methods to contribute to a better understanding of sequence, folding, structure, interaction and function relationships in biological macromolecules.
President: André Matagne, Lecturer at the Université de Liège (ULiège)

Immune micro-environment

Objective: information on the available experimental models (concomitant infections, organs, age, sex, tumours, pathologies) allowing the study of the modulations of in vivo immune responses and their consequences.
President: Truyens-Florival Carine, Professor at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)

Primatology

Objective: to coordinate actions in all aspects of primatology in Belgium: animal systematics, palaeontology, ethology, cognition, biodiversity (protection of primates and their environment)
President: Vercauteren Martine, Lecturer at the Université Libre de Bruxelles (ULB)/ Secretary: Brotcorne Fany, Assistant at the Université de Liège (ULiège)

Research in didactics of science and mathematics

Objective: to encourage exchanges on both scientific and mathematical didactic theories, and the issues for teaching raised by these theories.
Coprésidents : Bridoux Stéphanie, Temporary lecturer at the Université de Mons (UMons), Hindryckx-Boxus Marie-Noëlle, Lecturer at the Université de Liège (ULiège)

Metabolism
