Print

The Pierre Auger Observatory in Argentina is the largest cosmic ray detector in the world. Inaugurated in 2008, the Pierre Auger Observatory uses a combination of instruments including 1,600 detectors and 24 telescopes, over an area of 3,000 km². It is currently managed by a team of more than 500 scientists from 17 countries, including Belgium. The international agreement guaranteeing its operation has been extended, and strengthened on the Belgian side: the FNRS is now officially one of the signatories.
