On the initiative of the Baillet Latour Fund, the prestigious Baillet Latour Biomedical Award will be awarded in 2026 to independent investigators of any nationality in the early phase of their career to conduct biomedical research in Belgium and to consolidate their independent research team and program.
Main features
- The 2026 Award is granted to conduct a research project in the field of "Metabolism & Gastrointestinal System".
- Amount:1.000.000 € over 5 years.
- Evaluation criteria:
- Principal Investigator – 40% (CV and publications, leadership in the field, scientific achievements, and independence)
- Research Project – 40% (clarity of the project, preliminary results, soundness of the hypothesis, appropriateness of the approach, originality and focus of the project)
- Potential impact of the research – 20%
Eligible research project
- The research project must be conducted in Belgium.
- The research project must pertain to basic, translational or clinical biomedical research.
Eligible applicants
- Applicants must hold a PhD degree awarded no more than 12 years prior to the deadline for applications i.e. September 15th, 2013 (possibly extended in case of eligible career breaks).
- Applicants must be affiliated to a Belgian University, a Belgian University Hospital or an eligible Belgian Research Institute at the deadline of the call (see regulations).
- Applicants must be affiliated to their Institution until June 30th, 2031.

- Opening of the call: June 16th, 2025
- Deadline of the call: September 15th, 2025
- First Panel meeting: February 2026
- Second Panel meeting: March 2026
- Start of the Award: July 1st, 2026
