The FNRS internationally

The Fund for Scientific Research - FNRS is actively engaged in the internationalization of research. It allows researchers to carry out research stays and participate in scientific meetings abroad thanks to various funding instruments. The FNRS collaborates with Wallonie-Bruxelles International (WBI) and supports pan-European collaborative research projects via the Weave initiative and Horizon Europe partnerships.

Stimulate the internationalization of research

The FNRS stimulates the internationalization of research through individual funding which allows researchers from doctoral level to undertake research stays and participate in scientific meetings abroad via its instruments. mobility and congresses . > More info...

Collaborative financing for bilateral mobility projects

The FNRS also organizes calls for research mobility projects through its instrument PINT-BILAT-M , which makes it possible to finance bilateral projects by financing stays, operating costs and the organization of scientific meetings. With well-established bilateral collaborations, the FNRS also aspires to organize bilateral calls to finance real research projects and therefore the financing of personnel, operations and equipment through its instrument. The Weave initiative

Weave is a pan-European initiative developed by European research funders aimed at supporting excellent collaborative research projects across borders. This initiative brings together 12 national and regional research funders, with the possibility of expanding this network to other funders in the future.

Weave is based on the procedure known as “Lead Agency”. The agency that receives the proposal (the lead agency) evaluates it according to its internal rules defined for its national or regional program. The funding recommendation is then communicated to other funders (partner agencies) for approval.

This initiative therefore aims to simplify the procedures for submitting and selecting collaborative research proposals, thanks to a single evaluation procedure.

Horizon Europe Partnerships

In 2021, the Horizon Europe framework program started. The FNRS Board of Directors has decided to maintain the strategy of systematic participation in all Partnerships and calls compatible with the FNRS missions. The Partnerships envisaged within the framework of Horizon Europe are, however, fewer in number and cover more specialized research themes than under Horizon 2020.

Currently (list updated as of August 20, 2024), the FNRS is participating or will participate in Partnerships following co-financed:

Standard funding per network is set at one research project per call, with some flexibility. The projects are financed under the Multilateral Projects instrument (PINT-MULTI) > More info...
