The consultation and social negotiation body works hand-in-hand with the university joint bodies and as a result does not replace the Work Councils, Core Coordination Committees or University Committees for Prevention and Workplace Safety, which keep their attributed prerogatives, whatever the legal origin.

The consultation and social negotiation body provides the functions devolved to the union level as defined in CCT n°5 of the Conseil National du Travail.

This means that whenever the F.R.S-FNRS Board of Trustees makes a decision or choice which might have an impact on the jobs, status and work conditions of F.R.S-FNRS staff, they will always have to negotiate the matter with the staff union representatives.
