Stimulate the internationalization of research
The F.R.S.-FNRS stimulates the internationalization of research through individual funding that allows researchers at the doctoral level and above to carry out research stays and participate in scientific meetings abroad via its mobility and congress instruments. > More info...
Collaborative funding for bilateral mobility projects
F.R.S.-FNRS also organizes calls for research mobility projects through its PINT-BILAT-M instrument, which allows the funding of bilateral projects by financing stays, operating costs and the organization of scientific meetings. With bilateral collaborations well established, the F.R.S.-FNRS also aspires to organize bilateral calls to finance real research projects and thus the financing of personnel, operation and equipment through its PINT-BILAT-P instrument. > More info...
Partnerships with WBI
The F.R.S.-FNRS collaborates with Wallonie-Bruxelles International and partners abroad in the framework of calls for applications aimed at facilitating the international mobility of researchers. The F.R.S.-FNRS intervenes, alongside WBI, in the financing of these mobility instruments. > More info...
The Weave Initiative
Weave is a pan-European initiative developed by European research funders to support excellent collaborative research projects across borders. The initiative brings together 12 national and regional research funders, with the possibility of expanding the network to other funders in the future.
Weave is based on the procedure known as "Lead Agency". The agency that receives the proposal (the lead agency) evaluates it according to its internal rules defined for its national or regional program. The funding recommendation is then communicated to the other funders (the partner agencies) for approval.
This initiative therefore aims to simplify the submission and selection procedures for collaborative research proposals through a single evaluation process.

Horizon Europe Partnerships
Since the 7th Framework Program (FP7), the F.R.S.-FNRS has participated in European Research Area Networks (ERA-NETs), which allow the organization of multilateral calls for projects between different European agencies.
With Horizon 2020 (2014-2020 framework program), these networks have become the ERA-NETs Cofund, in which F.R.S.-FNRS has systematically participated, in accordance with the decision of the Board of Directors in December 2014. This strategy has proven to be successful and thematically very open.
In 2021 started the Horizon Europe framework program. The F.R.S.-FNRS Board of Directors has decided to maintain the strategy of systematic participation in all Partnerships and calls compatible with the F.R.S.-FNRS missions. The Partnerships envisaged in the framework of Horizon Europe are however less numerous and cover more specialized research themes than under Horizon 2020.
At present (list updated on August 20, 2024), the F.R.S.-FNRS is participating or will participate in the co-funded Partnerships:
- Agriculture of Data
- Biodiversa-plus - European Biodiversity Partnership
- DUT - Driving Urban Transitions
- EP PerMed - European Partnership for Personalised Medicine
- ERA4Health - European Research Area for Health Research
- ERDERA - Rare Diseases
- EUPAHW - European Partnership on Animal Health and Welfare
- FutureFoodS - Safe & Sustainable Food System
- GEH - Green Era Hub
- OH-AMR - One-Health Anti Microbial Resistance
- Resilient Cultural Heritage
- SBEP - Sustainable and productive blue economy Partnership
- Social Transformations and Resilience
- THCS - Transforming health and care systems
- Water4All - Water Security for the Planet
The standard funding per network is one research project per call, with some flexibility. Projects are funded under the Multilateral Projects (PINT-MULTI) instrument > More info...
