The Télévie campaign

Fonds WernaersTélévie is a major solidarity movement, initiated in 1989, jointly by RTL and the FNRS. The operation raises funds to help scientific research in the fight against cancer in children and adults.

All information on the Télévie operation, Télévie actions, events and products is available on the Télévie website .

How are donations collected allocated?

The money collected during Télévie is entirely intended to support cancer research carried out in the universities of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.

These funds make it possible to finance scientific personnel (researchers) and to give them the means to work.

The procedure for allocating donations collected by Télévie is rigorous and transparent:

  • Each year, the FNRS launches a call for Télévie projects at the start of the year. Interested scientists have approximately one month to submit their research proposal.
  • The projects are then evaluated by a Scientific Commission, made up of Belgian and international experts. This Commission analyzes, evaluates, scores and classifies each project received according to strict selection criteria. Only the highest ranked projects will be able to be financed, depending on the total amount of donations collected during the Télévie operation, the highlight of which is the big closing evening. In 2025, a record amount of 13,351,977.46€ was raised, making it possible to finance 99 projects and support the work of 104 scientists committed to the fight against cancer.
  • The FNRS Board of Directors validates funding awards based on the recommendations of the Scientific Commission.
  • The selected projects generally start at the beginning of October.

What themes are proposed?

The projects financed by Télévie cover a wide range of themes, as long as they fall within the field of oncology.

No subject is excluded, as long as it contributes to better understanding, treating or supporting people affected by cancer .

Researchers can work, for example, on a specific type of cancer (breast, pancreas, lung, etc.), on new therapeutic approaches or on aspects linked to patients' quality of life, such as pain management or fertility preservation.

Three main areas of research regularly emerge:

  • Better understand the disease: Why and how does cancer develop? How can our immune system be mobilized or “hijacked” to target cancer cells?  Better understanding lays the foundations for earlier, more precise diagnosis and opens the way to innovative treatments.
  • Develop new therapies: The objective is to design treatments that are more targeted, less invasive or with fewer side effects (and in the long term, particularly in the case of pediatric cancers in children and young patients).
  • Improve quality of life: Support patients in their journey, during and after treatments. This includes projects on fertility, pain management, psychological well-being or social reintegration.

What share does Télévie represent in investment in research?

Télévie makes it possible to double the amount of cancer research.
Télévie has therefore become essential, essential in the fight against cancer.
