ERA4Health JTC 2027 – Nano and advanced technologies for developing Diagnostic tools to improve the detection and the clinical management of noncommunicable diseases (NanoDiagNCD)
The Fund for Scientific Research (F.R.S.-FNRS) participates in various transnational networks that launch international calls for proposals aimed at supporting research projects on a range of strategic themes.
In this context, the F.R.S.-FNRS is participating in the call organised by ERA4Health (Fostering a European Research Area for Health Research).
This call is co-funded by the European Commission through the Horizon Europe framework programme.

Financing description
Objective
The aim of this call is to support translational research projects that develop application(s) of nanotechnologies, either solely or in combination with Key Enabling Technologies (KETs), to make significant strides in the development of diagnostic and theranostic tools for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
Scope
Proposals should focus on developing and/or validating diagnostic and theranostic tools that are grounded in robust scientific evidence. The results obtained from these tools must enable the optimisation of the care continuum. This care continuum includes, among other things, prevention, early disease detection, disease monitoring, treatment guidance, adverse effect and/or risk/benefit assessment.
The proposed research must define and validate performance benchmarks against existing diagnostic approaches to demonstrate added value in terms of sensitivity, specificity, accessibility, affordability, patient comfort, invasiveness and/or safety.
In addition, at any stage of the research and for all applications, translational and adoption requirements for nano-enabled diagnostic and theranostic solutions must be considered. This includes scalability, manufacturability, standardisation, affordability, accessibility, cost-effectiveness, regulatory readiness, interoperability, and integration across different healthcare systems.

Applications
Submission of an application
Procedure
Calls for projects are open according to the schedule of the secretariat in charge of the call, with dates available on the F.R.S.-FNRS website.
Submitting an application to the secretariat in charge of the call, in the language required by the latter, is the responsibility of the project coordinator. Any application that has not been validated within the deadlines set by the secretariat will not be taken into consideration.
In parallel, the promoter must mandatorily complete an administrative application on the e-space platform.
The deadline for registration and submission of the application on e-space is set at 5 working days after the closing of the call by the secretariat in charge of the call.
As part of this submission, the file of the proposal submitted to the secretariat in charge of the call must be attached. Only English versions of these proposals will be accepted.
Timeline
- Call opening : 17 november 2026 14:00
- Call closing to the secretariat in charge of the call: 19 january 2027 12:00
- Closing of administrative submission to F.R.S.-FNRS: 26 january 2027 14:00
- Project start date: December 2027/May 2028
Evaluation
In the context of transnational calls, evaluation is carried out by one or more joint evaluation committees. These committees are completely independent of the F.R.S.-FNRS and are composed of experts appointed by the agencies participating in the transnational call.
The criteria taken into account in the evaluation of these international proposals are outlined in the text describing the procedure of each call ("call text" or "call announcement"). These criteria may vary slightly depending on the context and domain(s) of each call. Nevertheless, in line with its general policy, the F.R.S.-FNRS only participates in calls whose primary evaluation criterion remains scientific excellence.
The schedule and organisation of evaluations are specific to each transnational call and are rigorously described in the text accompanying its publication ("call text" or "call announcement").

Eligibility criteria
A research project is led by a promoter within a university of the French Community of Belgium (CFB).
To be a promoter, one must:
- either be a permanent mandate holder of the F.R.S.-FNRS (CQ, MR, DR);
- either be a promoter of a MISU;
- either be a FED-tWIN mandate holder;
- either be permanently or provisionally appointed to an academic or scientific position within the institution.
The research project may be carried out alone or in collaboration with co-promoters within CFB universities or other institutions recognised as eligible.
To be a co-promoter, one must meet the same conditions as those applicable to a promoter within their institution.
For more details, please consult the instrument's regulations.
Accumulation rules
By default, a candidate may only participate in one PINT-MULTI application per distinct transnational call, whether as a partner or coordinator.
In the specific case of calls co-funded by the European Commission or under a derogation linked to a particular call, a candidate may participate in a maximum of two applications per distinct transnational call, of which only one as coordinator.
Important: only the conditions detailed in the regulations and the cumulation rules document will be taken into consideration for administrative review. The elements listed on this page are provided for informational purposes only.
