Thanks to the generous patronage of a private donator, the FNRS and the FWO will grant in 2027 an Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Award.

Scope and objective

  • The objective of the Award is to reward a particularly deserving researcher for an original fundamental or translational contribution in the fields of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Metabolism or Nutrition.
     
  • The research can be based on any model or experimental approach (functional, morphological, genetic, pharmacological, epidemiological) but cannot pertain to cancerous pathologies.

Main features

  • The Award amounts to 30.000 €. Half of this amount will be allocated to the laureate personally; the other half will be attributed to the laureate's laboratory.
     
  • Joint application are not allowed.

Eligibility criteria

  • Applicants must be affiliated to a Belgian university or university hospital and currently conduct a research project in the field of the Award.
     
  • Applicants must hold a PhD in a medical or biomedical field.
     
  • Applicants must have a scientific seniority of minimum PhD +6 years and maximum PhD +16 years at the deadline of the call.
     
  • Applicants must have worked in a medical/biomedical context in Belgium at least 5 years in total, including the 3 years directly preceding the deadline of the call.
     
  • Applicants must not have received an Award of an amount equal or superior to 20.000 € for the work submitted in the last 3 years (prior to the deadline of the call).
     
  • Previous laureates of the Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolism Award are not eligible.

Evaluation

  • Eligible applications will be evaluated, by an international scientific Panel appointed by the FNRS and the FWO, according to the following evaluation criteria:
    • Quality and originality of the research – 40%
    • Quality of the applicant – 40%
    • International potential / recognition – 20%

Call timeline

  • Opening of the call: 14 December 2026 (tbc)
  • Deadline of the call: 1 March 2027
  • Panel meeting: June 2027
