Participation in collective actions

The FNRS participates in several initiatives that aim to strengthen gender equality. First of all, like the French-speaking universities of Belgium, the Fund has actively participated since 2015 in two important bodies created by the Wallonia-Brussels Federation:

• The Women and Science Committee (CFS) is coordinated by ARES and brings together members of the FWB and FNRS universities, with the participation of a member of the cabinet of ministers responsible for higher education, research, women's rights and equal opportunities, and members of the General Directorate of Higher Education, Lifelong Education and Scientific Research and the Directorate of Equal Opportunities of the FWB. It aims to formulate opinions and recommendations on issues of equality between women and men in the academic and scientific fields and to ensure, on these issues, the exchange of information and good practices.
• The conference of Contact Persons Gender (CPCG). In this context, the FNRS receives a grant from the FWB, in order to carry out networking, awareness and information actions in collaboration with the FWB universities. This allows it to achieve, each year, a report on the state of gender equality within the Fund , as well as participating in the drafting of regular interinstitutional reports on the state of gender equality. In April 2025, a special action of raising awareness of the fight against sexual and gender-based violence via a ‘violentometer’, accompanied by information on existing support systems , was led by the CPCG. The FNRS distributed the materials produced internally, on its premises, and relayed the communication campaign externally. here .

Beyond its participation in the structures set up by the FWB, the Fund is also an active member of the intra-Belgian consultation group CIS-CFS Gender , in charge of positioning Belgium at European level on the subject of equality between men and women in research and innovation.
