Short stay at the Joint Research Center (JRC) in Ispra

As part of the Belgian presidency of the Council of the EU, the Joint Research Center (JRC) is offering ten young Belgian researchers the opportunity to make a short visit (11-13 June 2024) to Ispra and the research centre of their choice.

The JRC site in Ispra is the European Commission's third largest site. Although originally created as a nuclear research site, staff at the Ispra site now work on both non-nuclear research (sustainable resources and transport, space, security, migration, health and consumer protection, energy, efficiency and climate change, growth and innovation) and nuclear research (nuclear safeguards, non-proliferation and nuclear security).
These short stays, the cost of which will be entirely covered by the JRC (flights, accommodation, local travel, meals), will take place from 11 to 13 June 2024.
Four researchers (maximum 7 years post-thesis) will be selected by the Collegium of the Académie Royale des Sciences, des Lettres et des Beaux-Arts and six others by the Jonge Academie of the Koninklijke Vlaamse Academie van België voor wetenschappen en kunsten.

The two and a half day visit to the site could include :
- a half-day of lectures giving an overview of the JRC and topics of general interest to young scientists.
- an observation programme (full day) during which the visiting young scientists are welcomed individually by a scientific unit close to their field of expertise. This programme allows the visiting young scientist to ask any questions they may have and to discover the cutting-edge tools and techniques used at JRC.
- a half-day visit to some of the JRC's flagship laboratories. This part of the visit gives a good impression of the different areas of expertise and infrastructure at JRC.
