FNRS.awards | The Generet 2020 Award has been awarded to Pierre Vanderhaeghen!

On January 25, 2021, Pierre Vanderhaeghen was awarded the Generet 2020 Award for research on rare diseases. The Prize rewards his research work devoted to brain development and its abnormalities.

The Generet Fund wishes to give a strong impetus to research on rare diseases and contribute to making our country a center of expertise on these diseases. Since 2018, the Fund has been awarding a €1 million scientific prize each year to finance a 4-year research programme.

Professor at the KU Leuven and ULB, Pierre Vanderhaeghen is a former FNRS researcher, having spent his entire career there until 2012. Congratulations to him for this prestigious award!

Announcement of the 2020 winner of the Generet Prize for Rare Diseases

Invitation to participate in the ceremony during which the name of the 2020 winner of the Generet Prize for Rare Diseases will be announced. It will take place on Monday, January 25th from 11:30 am to 12:15 pm.

On the programme: a presentation of the winner, testimonies from patients, their families and stakeholders.

The Generet Fund, managed by the King Baudouin Foundation, rewards each year a leading researcher who puts his or her skills at the service of research on rare diseases with a view to improving the quality of life of patients. This prize, worth €1,000,000, is unique in the Belgian research landscape and aims to increase Belgium's influence as an international centre for research on rare diseases.

The "ISDT Wernaers Fund for the Popularization of Science" aims to support actions to promote research and the dissemination of scientific knowledge. To this end, the Fund will grant in 2021 :

  • The Wernaers Prize for Scientific Popularisation.
  • Subventions to media that contribute to developing interest in scientific culture.
